"Every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end"

I felt that the title of this blog was appropriate as I just finished my freshman year at Western on Friday (PRAISE THE LORD!)! I can’t believe it is over! I know this is cliché, but it really did go by fast! So much has happened over the last year and God has been so faithful! His hand has been all over everything (I hope to write more detail about that soon). I’m so thankful for all of the many ways that He has blessed me over the last year: friends (some I would even consider to be like new sisters!), help with my classes, adjusting to the college life, great relationships with my family, CRU, opportunities to witness and be his hands and feet, etc. Besides the pressure and stress of the college work-load (which can get very exhausting!), I have truly enjoyed everything about my year at Western!

That being said, with the ending of my freshman year comes the beginning of something new – six months in Costa Rica!!! On June 13th I will be flying out to begin my newest adventure! I have many emotions regarding this upcoming event! I’m very excited, while also a little nervous. I’m excited for the opportunity. I can’t wait to experience the culture, make new friends, learn the language (hopefully!), and grow closer to the Lord through all of this. But I’m also a little nervous. I have no idea what to expect. I’ll be living with local families, taking public transportation to and from classes and EVERYTHING will be in Español!!! I’m anticipating several weeks (possibly months) of constant frustration and feelings of being overwhelmed. But I know that God will use those difficulties. I think it will strength my relationship with Him, as I will have to surrender those frustrations and constantly rely on Him. I will also be forced to daily step out of my comfort zone, and my comprehension of the language should improve.

For the most part, I cannot wait to begin this new adventure! I will certainly miss my family and all of my friends. My Internet access will probably be limited and I will barely have any phone service. For those reasons, I will probably rely a lot on this blog to communicate with people. I am hoping to update this blog often, to keep people updated.

I have about a month before I leave. I’m glad to have a few weeks to spend time with my family and my Louisville friends. I’m going to cram as much as possible in the next few weeks! Right now I am in beautiful Hawaii enjoying a family vacation! It’s been wonderful! The weather is perfect – of course! Yesterday we went to a local church, which was fun. The walls of the church were doors that lifted to create an open-air atmosphere. It was wonderful; the cool Hawaii breeze flowed in as the service went on. Today we have spent the day chillin’ on the beach and preparing for our Five-Day club that we will be doing this week. Tonight is our first night! We are praying for 50 kids. Last night we passed out flyers along the beach - hopefully God will bring a good turn out. Please pray that God will use our family to open the eyes of the children who come. :)
